PROJECTS 30 31 ostiliomobili Magazine - Edition 1 A renovation has transformed two old buildings into an alluring penthouse furnished with exquisite elegance. In the open space the kitchen is set at a different level from the rest Archiabita studio, architects Romina Turra and Luciano Ragni ARCHIABITA STUDIO DI ARCHITETTURA How would you describe your collaboration with ostiliomobili? Working with ostiliomobili felt like a relaxing journey with an expert “guide” who could respond instantly to needs, nuances and the research behind the project. Every request – even the most complex – was addressed with timely solutions aligned with our studio’s guiding ideas. How do you think the synergy between the architect and the furniture supplier can positively influence a project’s final outcome? Synergy between architect and furniture supplier is undoubtedly the foundation of every successful project. How do you think furniture choices can add value to an architectural project? I can only give top marks to ostiliomobili’s service: for this project they supported and delivered every requirement, from supplying furnishings to producing the bespoke pieces and elements we designed. What sets ostiliomobili apart in your mind? Given that many areas in this project were designed specifically for the success of the penthouse, much was custom-made to our drawings and followed personally, step by step. One example is the wine-cellar area, a room designed to host a generous collection for tasting. Creating this space involved several professionals – joiner, metalworker and electrician – whose skill and know-how gave the room a unique feel. The window is concealed (though it can be revealed when needed to let in light and air) by a kind of screen that also clads the adjacent wall in custom, expanded sheet metal. Hiding the track system that lets everything slide as required was a rewarding challenge. Inside, amidst oak-veneer shelving and sheet-metal elements – including a refrigerated wine unit and sheet-metal modules with backlit oak shelves – a sideboard appears with a metal frame and drawers made from prestigious Champagne wooden cases whose varied tones bring the cellar to life. Illuminated by a hidden light source, a Berkel in the iconic burgundy colour dominates the centre. How do you see the future of your sector? A client who entrusts a home project to an architect, as in this case, should work closely with the professional to the end. Having designed the space, the architect already knows where to place the right element in the right spot. Cooperation with the furniture store is essential because the architect, envisioning the interior from the outset, can elevate the whole home through the most appropriate furnishing choices.
