PROJECTS 56 57 ostiliomobili Magazine - Edition 1 A family farmhouse, nestled in the heart of a historic Bergamo town, is reborn with fresh elegance. Renovated in the late 1990s, the complex now comprises four independent homes, sharing a large garden and an indoor pool that amplify its timeless appeal. The residence shown here tells the story of the latest, refined project by architects Giovanni Mario Gozzini and Maria Paola Brignoli, who skilfully reimagined the interior layout. The focal point of the restyling is the extension centred on the ancient loggia, now transformed into a dramatic living area facing the garden. Flooded with natural light, this zone is not only highly functional but also a refined aesthetic feature that dialogues with the outdoors, extending the home toward the surrounding greenery. The original openings – once simple French doors onto the loggia – have been reinvented as distinctive architectural signatures. Today a rhythmic sequence of varied-size apertures marks the transition between living room, kitchen and corridor, evoking the structure’s historic charm. A glossy black finish used for door and window frames, wardrobes and lamps threads through the rooms like a common motif, lending a bold, contemporary character. The custom-sized parquet flows continuously across the living spaces, bringing unity, warmth and elegance to every room. The kitchen, with its technological, refined design, unfolds in three distinct volumes. The central island, embellished by a wood top, serves as the family table, and as a study area for the girls when needed. Beside it, white columns integrate refrigerators and pantries, concealing accesses to the bathroom and laundry behind pocket doors. Completing the setting is a bank of built-in appliances, suspended and set within a refined wooden structure. The primary bedroom is situated at the end of a corridor lined with custom cabinetry. Here, a red leather swinging door – the design’s centrepiece – opens to an intimate, light-filled space. The bed, set before a large window that once overlooked the loggia, seems to blend into the outdoor landscape. The entire project reveals a perfect balance between past and present. Historic traces intertwine with advanced technological and home-automation solutions that orchestrate the whole house. The result is a residence that, while evoking the allure of the past, stands out for its extraordinary efficiency and contemporary appeal.
